Definition: A vital tool in the e-commerce era, an advanced shipping notification (ASN) is sent by a supplier to a customer to provide details about a pending shipment. It serves as a pre-announcement to inform the recipient about the delivery of goods and provides relevant details — including a tracking number, expected delivery time, carrier information, an itemized list of products and quantities shipped, packaging information and weight — to facilitate the receiving process.
