Definition: According to the ISM Glossary of Key Supply Management Terms, hazardous materials “have been determined by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to be a risk to health, safety and property. The term includes such items as explosives, flammables, poisons, corrosives and radioactive materials. These materials must be packaged, labeled, handled and transported according to stringent regulations from several agencies.”
