What’s in a Name? Foresight

In January 2002, the National Association of Purchasing Management changed its name to Institute for Supply Management® (ISM®) without universal acceptance and acclaim. Even after I became the leader of ISM in 2012, purchasing was a well-understood business function and the term supply management seemed nebulous in the minds of many professionals. Recent economic events have proven that name change precocious and farsighted.
